We went away….

So as many of you know Mark and I went away for the night (for my 30th Birthday) completely child free!

Mark arranged for my sister-in-law and his Mum to watch Ruby as Hannah was already going to her Dad’s for the weekend. We stayed in Cricklade in Wiltshire in a beautiful Golf and Spa Hotel. header-image.jpgIt was such a beautiful location and only about an hour or so from home so not too far to travel even if you do feel a million miles away once you get there!

We arrived a little early and had a drink and lunch in the bar. Nice food…even nicer wine and all reasonably priced!

The room we stayed in was lovely and spacious with a good power shower (we don’t have a shower at home – only a bath so showers are a bit of  novelty to us!)  I forgot to take a picture of the room but it was pretty standard, bed, desk, wardrobe, bathroom, tea and coffee facilities…you know the usual. We had a lovely view over the golf course and countryside.

It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop…quite different from what we are used to at home!!

We popped down to the ‘spa’ but I was a little disappointed to find it was actually just a pool and hottub and not a full blown spa with loungers, dressing gowns and slippers but it was relaxing none the less.

We got dressed up (again a novelty these days) and went for dinner in the restaurant at the hotel which was amazing. Mark had pork belly while I settled on a burger and onion rings, it would have been rude not to! The food was lovely, the service was excellent and being seated in the conservatory the views were amazing. Was so lovely to have a proper conversation and enjoy food without having to share it with any little people!20170429_183557

We found the hotels snooker room which was lots of fun, apparently I am just as rubbish as I was when I was younger and Mark was throwing around trick shots like they were going out of fashion – either way it was lots of fun.

Breakfast was included and was a pretty standard affair. Hot food, continental selection, yoghurts and fruit and cereals. Plus a massive vat of HOT COFFEE which I drank two mugs of…while it was still hot!!!

Overall the hotel was exactly what we needed. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. We will definitely be returning.

We did a pitstop in Malmsbury on the way home but realised as it was a Sunday not many shops were open. We did manage to see the Cathedral though. I love a good building and this one doesn’t disappoint!20170430_104939

Overall it was a fabulous weekend to spend some quality time together, eat amazing food without sharing and drink coffee before it gets cold..can we do that every weekend?!
